Opening up again and Updates

March 2022   Keeping Connected

Hi friends,

Well, it is March and the temple is opening up, reducing COVID restrictions, and dare I say “getting back to normal.”  I surely hope so and I am also hopeful I will start to see more temple members and more activity happening in our congregational home.

Recently, I sent out an e-mail about the idea of Congregation Shalom selling our current land/building and moving to a new space, somewhere that would still be accessible to the current Congregation Shalom demographics.  As I stated, before we start making more large capital investments in our current building, we want to do our due diligence and see if a move is even feasible or practical.  I promised to keep you informed as the process has begun.

Well, the process has begun, we have a diverse committee led by Stephen Rodman.  We had our first meeting and I want to pass along a few pieces of information.

First, the name of the committee developed by our committee chair: ICE CREAM COMMITTEE:

Investigate a Conceivable Environment for Congregation RElocation And Moving

Our committee also agreed upon our ultimate mission: To undertake study of three options and then make a recommendation to the Board of Trustees on how to proceed.

The three options we will be studying are as follows:

  • Stay and renovate/repair the current building.
  • Stay and undertake a major renovation that would include partial demolition with reconstruction.
  • Relocate the synagogue, either to an existing structure or through construction of a new building.

One of our first tasks was to develop a list of wants/needs for our building and congregation.  To do this, we reached out to various constituent groups including the Board of Trustees, Sisterhood, Brotherhood, Shalomites, and the school to provide input.  Understanding these wants/needs will allow us to move forward in our studies of the above three options.  I will continue to keep you updated as we progress in our mission.

I do want to let you know that we are in the process of planning our second annual Parking Lot Party for Saturday, June 18, 2022, dinner time so please save the date.  More information will be forthcoming…

Let’s hope for some spring weather soon.  Stay well.

L’Shalom,

Liz
