My First Newsletter Article

Keeping Connected  August 2023

It is with great honor and respect that I write my first newsletter article as Congregation Shalom’s president.  While I have had the pleasure to meet many of you while on committees, at school or working the Hanukkah or Purim parties, there are those of you who I have not met yet – and I can’t wait to do so.  I live in Londonderry with my husband Matt, our two kids, Lily and Micah and our two English labs, Winnie and Mack.  I grew up coming to Congregation Shalom, so I still have connections to many families who have been here since I was a kid.  It’s a wonderful feeling to know that the leaders who I watched as a teen are still dedicated and supportive members and volunteers.  It’s lovely to think that perhaps some day, my kids will remember the current families and leaders when they are helping their own synagogue and community.

On the topic of leaders, I wanted to make a personal ask to each of you.  We have a couple of committees that I wanted to highlight, that are looking for assistance.  We also have a committee that we are trying to form.  Maybe you have some extra time or you’ve been looking for a way to get involved more?  Here are some areas to consider:

  • Technology Committee: This is a new committee that will help with sound, video, stream services, computers, etc.  While there will be some trouble-shooting at first, this committee will also be charged with ensuring that we are making the best possible decisions when it comes to platforms, services and equipment.  This committee would also help with maintenance of the equipment and making recommendations to the Board of Trustees when needed.

  • Membership Committee: The Membership Committee is a wonderful, out-going group who helps make connections with potential members.  The committee work is spread out and the time commitment is not much.  This is the perfect opportunity for someone who loves to meet new people and wants to show them how inclusive and welcoming CS is.

  • House Committee Chair: We have a dedicated, capable House Committee but no one to chair it.  This would be a perfect position for someone with Project Manager skills.  General contracting or other skilled working experience is helpful but certainly not necessary.

If you have any interest in these, or perhaps any other committee that you’ve seen or heard about but don’t know how to get involved or where to get started, please reach out to me at president@congregationshalom.org.

L’Shalom
